Objectif
This class has three objectives: 1) Approach global health and development issues from a population perspective, i.e. in terms of transition to adulthood, reproductive behaviours, migration and urbanization, health and mortality. 2) Learn how to frame a research question on a topic covered by the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) for a specific country (to be chosen), and how to answer this question with statistical analyses. 3) Learn how to use the statistical software Stata and DHS data to carry out uni-, bi- and multi-variate statistical analyses.
Descriptif
This 4 hours weekly class takes place in the computer room at Uni Mail. One or two hours of lecture and instructions are typically followed by hands-on practical training. Students will work in teams of two, and write a paper together (about 20 pages); each student is expected to do his / her own analysis. Four assignments are due during the semester and feed-backs given: these assignments, put together, make up the paper. Grades are based on the paper (in English or French).
