Art and Law in Dialogue - Interdisciplinary Queer-Feminist Perspectives

About the Gender Law Conference

Every two years, the Swiss institute for feminist legal studies and gender law (FRI) brings together researchers, practitioners and activists in an international conference to discuss questions at the intersection of feminism and law.

Our upcoming Gender Law Conference 2027 is an interdisciplinary space for all those who engage with queer-feminist perspectives on law and society. This time, we bring art and law into dialogue. We ask: what becomes visible when injustice is negotiated not only in legal paragraphs, but in images, performances, or literary texts? What can artistic forms contribute to a queer-feminist critique of law? Lawyers, artists, cultural practitioners, theorists, and activists will think together about how law and art challenge and enrich one another.

The conference is multilingual (DE / FR / EN) and thrives on exchange between people with different backgrounds, disciplines, and perspectives.

Call for papers

We invite contributions for panels and artistic contributions at the intersection of art and law from queer-feminist perspectives. We are particularly interested in contributions that cross disciplinary, geographic, and professional boundaries. Contributions are welcome in German, French, and English. We invite contributions addressing one or more of the following four panels:

  • Panel 1: Art as an Extension of Legal Thinking and Practice
  • Panel 2: How Law Shapes Access to Art
  • Panel 3: Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
  • Panel 4: Cultural Heritage and War: Legal Perspectives

Submission Guidelines

We ask that you to submit your contribution this time via a short online form rather than by email. Please prepare a brief bio (max. 150 words), an abstract (max. 500 words), and the panel you are addressing. If you have difficulties accessing the form or prefer another route, please contact us directly.
