Caste, Class, and Gender in South Asia: Intersecting Realities
Content
This course critically examines the intersection of caste, class, and gender in South Asia, exploring how these social categories have shaped and continue to shape individuals' lives across the region. Drawing on key theoretical frameworks, the course will cover historical, cultural, and political perspectives. Through readings from anthropology, sociology, history, and gender studies, students will engage with concepts such as social hierarchies, intersectionality, patriarchy, resistance, and the role of caste and class in shaping gender norms. The course will also analyse the impact of colonialism, nationalism, and globalization on these social formations in South Asia.
