Authoritarianism, Militarization, Fascistization – Feminist Perspectives and Analyses

Lecture Series WS 2025/26, organized by the DVPW-section “Politics and Gender”

This lecture series explores feminist, queer, and critical perspectives on rising authoritarianism, right-wing extremism, and fascism. The tendencies towards militarization and isolation are based on the concept of an independent and defensible body and subject: The vulnerable body must be protected and made as unassailable as possible. This is connected, on the one hand, to the idealization and reproduction of certain notions of masculinity. On the other hand, it is rooted in renewed separation from (traditionally) feminized dependence and vulnerability.
In the context of contemporary social developments, we aim to bring together diverse feminist, queer, intersectional, and anti-authoritarian perspectives on the emerging developments of shielding and militarization. The perspectives range from sociological explanatory approaches and analyses of concrete phenomena and developments, to questions about strategies of resistance and alternative ways of life.

The lecture series is organized by the speakers council of the “Politics and Gender” section within the DVPW (German Political Science Association, GPSA), in cooperation with the Center for Gender Studies and Feminist Futures at Marburg University.
The lecture series will be an online event that takes place on Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm. It is open to anyone interested.
