Sociology of the Economy
This course provides an overview of sociological approaches to analysing the economy. First, we engage with major frameworks foundational to the subfield, alongside works on finance, markets, work, organizations, and other topics informed by these frameworks. Second, we address areas to which the economic sociology canon has historically been inattentive: gender inequalities, racial inequalities, and the global South. We engage with newer work in the subfield that touches on these topics, and imagine both what economic sociology might have to offer the study of these areas, and vice versa.
