Archive and Gender
Content
Creating alternative archives and challenging hegemonic memory politics and historiography has long been a preoccupation of feminist research and activism. What is considered an archive, what is archived and by whom, how archives are organized and categorized, and who can access them are questions deeply intertwined with power structures. In this seminar, we will discuss archives both as reflections of power structures, and as sites of producing, stabilizing, or contesting them. Through selected readings in critical archival studies, we will analyze archives, libraries and other sites and practices related to politics of memory with a focus on gender and post-colonial theories.
