Women's Studies MA at University College Cork - accepting applications for 2026-27
Why Women’s Studies at UCC:
The MA in Women's Studies at UCC is a highly interdisciplinary, intersectional, and critical theory-driven program that draws on the expertise of an international teaching team working across a wide range of Departments in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences. With fields of expertise ranging from Philosophy, Sociology, Government and Politics, the Study of Religions, English, Applied Social Studies, French, History, Education, and more, plus a Women’s Studies program director that is specialized in interdisciplinary philosophy, the environmental posthumanities, and critical pedagogies, UCC’s Women’s Studies MA program encourages its students to think far beyond their original disciplines, disciplinary boundaries, and epistemological frameworks.
This MA course, which has been offered in UCC for over 20 years and has evolved into an inclusive course suited to Irish, international, and mature students with professional and/or activist experience in women’s and gender issues, furthermore starts from the idea that its MA students possess their own lived experiences and embodied knowledges and should therefore be seen as co-learners in the feminist classroom. As co-learners, MA in Women’s Studies students are active participants in their education that are welcomed at all of our interdisciplinary academic events, workshops, and social gatherings. After completing the first part of this taught MA program, this co-learning experience culminates in the writing of an MA dissertation under the close supervision of one of the Women’s Studies academic staff members.
You can follow the Women’s Studies MA program at UCC on Bluesky and Facebook for more information about the research and community events that were organized during 2024-2026.
