A Conference on Gender and Sexualities

Hosted by the Department of Gender and Sexualities in partnership with the Human Rights Directorate. Selected papers will be published on Astarte: Mediterranean Journal on Gender and Sexualities.

The 2026 Conference on Gender and Sexualities invites critical and creative engagements with gender and sexuality as sites of power, identity, embodiment, and representation. We especially welcome work that bridges feminist, queer, trans, decolonial, and intersectional approaches; that connects theory and practice; and that speaks to Mediterranean, Global South, and transnational perspectives.

We encourage submissions that include—without being limited to—the following clusters:

  • Bodies, Identities, and Representations
  • Core Theoretical Foundations
  • Social Institutions and Power
  • Inequalities and Violence
  • Global and Historical Perspectives
  • Contemporary and Emerging Topics

Interested authors are invited to submit an abstract by 1 December 2025 to the editorial board (Women's and Gender Studies Symposium and Conference, Malta 2026 ) or email gender.fsw um.edu mt.

We welcome theoretical analyses, empirical studies, creative scholarship, and practice‑based research across disciplines. Please choose the most appropriate format:

  • Individual Paper (10–15 minutes): Abstract 250–300 words + 3–5 keywords.
  • Pre‑Organised Panel (3–4 papers): Panel title; 250‑word panel rationale; for each paper: 250–300‑word abstract.
  • Creative/Artistic Submission (performance, film, exhibition, poetry, etc.): 300‑word concept note + technical needs; links where relevant.
  • Poster: 200‑word abstract (3-5 keywords).
