The Network of the Queens Cleopatra I and Cleopatra II (180-115 BC)

Abstract

The study focuses on the networks of two Ptolemaic queens, Cleopatra I and her daughter Cleopatra II; the first queen was at the head of a joint rule between 180 and 177/6 BC with her young son Ptolemy VI; the other queen was part of six joint rules between 170 and 115 BC, and ruled alone in Alexandria during the civil war (from 132 to 127 BC). The present study tries to understand if the success of these two women should be explained in terms of some royal networks they benefited from and to identify those networks, both inside and outside their families.
