SYMPOSIUM «Citing our queer-feminist streams»

This symposium explores the analytical entanglements of queer-feminist and STS perspectives by bringing together scholars who work in/on and through queer-feminist STS. As such, the event strives to foster exchange on the (historic) genealogies and (future) potentialities of bringing queer-feminist and STS ambitions together, to contribute to citing (and sighting) queer-feminist STS in the Swiss context, and to nurture connections within the (inter)national community of queer-feminist STS scholars and beyond.

To do so, the symposium features three moderated dialogues that each bring two scholars from queer-feminist STS into an exchange, complemented by multilateral discussions and time for open exchange. All three dialogues engage with a serious of leading questions, plus specific questions that relate more closely to the individual discussants’ areas of work and expertise. These leading questions are:

  • What constitutes queer-feminist STS, and what defines its ‘critical edge’?

  • What are the challenges and possibilities for STS and gender studies as two (emerging) disciplines, and how to trick related boundaries?

  • What are knowledge practices to be fostered within queer-feminist STS?

On the podium we welcome: Nolwenn Bühler (Lausanne, CH), Delphine Gardey (Geneva, CH), Nina Lykke (Linköping, SWE), Mariacristina Sciannamblo (Rome, IT), Banu Subramaniam (Wellesley, USA), and Jutta Weber (Paderborn, D).

The symposium is organized as an in-person event in Basel, with the possibility of some discussants joining online.
