Thierry Amrein est anthropologue social et spécialisé en "anthropologie du genre".
Il a été doctorant en Sciences sociales à l'Université de Lausanne (ISCM) et a participé en outre à l'École doctorale romande en Études Genre 2008-2011 et à l'École doctorale suisse en Anthropologie 2007-2009. Ses terrains d'étude sont la Turquie et le Valais (CH), où il a mené une recherche de doctorat qui porte le titre provisoire de "Émancipation et patriarcat : le cas du parcoursArianna".

He did his PhD in Social Sciences at the University of Lausanne (ISCM) and also participated at the French Swiss Graduate School in Gender Studies 2008-2011 and at the Swiss Graduate School in Anthropology 2007-2009. Its fields of study are Turkey and Valais (CH), where he conducted a PhD research whose provisional title is "Emancipation and patriarchy: the case of parcoursArianna."
