SAGS main goals include:
- Promoting gender studies and their long-term institutionalization at Swiss universities and in research
- Representing the interests of gender studies at universities, in decision-making bodies at universities as well as in other research institutions, in education politics and in public discourse
- Promoting exchange and cooperation between academics in the field of gender studies (both locally and internationally), in particular including and networking with the new generation of researchers in the field
- Offering expert knowledge for the public
- Representing Switzerland in international scientific societies and research organizations in the field of gender studies
