The Swiss Association for Gender Studies (SAGS) is a scientific organization. Our aim is to promote gender studies in Switzerland and to represent its interests in Swiss higher education. SAGS also offers a forum for exchange and networking. Our aim is to promote gender studies as an innovative field of research in Swiss academia.
As a scientific organization, SAGS organizes a conference every two years as well as other international conferences and events with local and international participants from the field of gender studies. The SAGS attaches particular importance to exchanges with research networks in German and French-speaking countries. Since 2017, the SAGS awards the Brigitte-Schnegg-Prize every two years for outstanding academic work in the field of gender research in Switzerland.
In 2019, SAGS took over the publication series "Gender Issues", which covers a wide range of disciplines. As a multilingual series, it bridges the gap between different research foci and linguistic and cultural specificities. «Gender issues» is peer-reviewed and published in open access by SEISMO.
In 2020, SAGS officially became a member of RINGS - The International Research Association of Institutions of Advanced Gender Studies. The SAGS is also in close contact with the Think Tank Gender & Diversity, FemWiss and Gender Campus. These three networks are represented in the SAGS board. In 2016, SAGS became a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW), which provides financial support to some SAGS activities.
