Are you aPhDcandidate exploring themes of activism and gender in the transatlantic space?
Join the 2025 doctoral colloquium “The Gender of Activism: Networks, Circulation, and Solidarity in the Transatlantic Space”, a unique program designed to foster transdisciplinary dialogue, methodological reflection, and collaborative networks among early-career researchers.
About the Program
Organized by Institut Universitaire de France, Université de Lille (CECILLE), Université Libre de Bruxelles (CIERL), the Institut des Amériques (Washington Hub), and Georgetown University (Gender+ Justice Initiative and Women’s and Gender Studies Program), this hybrid seminar will take place monthly from March to December 2025, combining in-person sessions at Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.) with virtual participation. Through dynamic discussions, participant-led presentations, and guest lectures, the colloquium will address crucial questions at the intersection of activism and gender studies.
Key themes include
- Activist Networks: How have transatlantic activist networks been structured? What role have gender and intersectionality played in their inclusion or exclusion?
- Circulation of Ideas: How have activist ideas, practices, and literature circulated between Europe and the Americas? What has this revealed about shared struggles and unique contexts?
- Solidarity in Action: What forms of solidarity have emerged in activist movements, and how have power dynamics shaped these collaborations?
- Methodological Challenges: How have researchers approached archives, sources, and discourse analysis to study activism in transnational contexts?
This colloquium offers a space for doctoral researchers to refine their projects, share methodologies, and engage with a supportive community of peers and senior academics.
