The Swiss Association of Gender Studies is an academic association. It promotes Gender Studies in Switzerland and represents its interests, foremost in Swiss University Policy. Furthermore it provides a workspace for exchange and networking.
Gender Studies has institutionalized itself in the last fifteen years. 1997 the first professorship with a gender-specific focus has been created at the Department of History at the University of Basel. Thus the feminist movement has also expanded into the Swiss academia business. Since the formation of this professorship for Women- and Gender Studies the academic world has changed a lot in regards of gender, because Gender Studies as become an independent academic field and is positioned within different disciplines. In a map which was released not long ago, nine institutes were listed which offer the possibility to study with a gender related emphasis.
Every two years the SGGF organizes its own conference with a thematically selected focus. You can find retrospects about the conferences since 2010 at Events. There is also an overview of our past cooperations. You can find more information about important upcoming dates of the SGGF at News.
