The seminar introduces students to the field of queer anthropology and anthropological approaches to gender and sexuality studies. We will discuss ethnographic texts and concrete, empirical material but also explore theoretical texts from different intellectual traditions like Intersectionality, Queer Feminism, or Queer of Color Critique. The seminar seeks to provide an overview of current themes in queer anthropology and explores how gender-relations, sexuality, and heteronormativity are important analytical tools for general anthropological research on political, economic, and societal topics like globalization, religious nationalism, or citizenship.
