Contenu
American Studies is a new and radically interdisciplinary exploration of the cultures of the United States of America. It seeks to understand the origins and the development of these cultures, their effects on the nation, as well as their transnational exchanges with other parts of the world and their impact. American studies seek to understand the plurality and diversity of cultural practices that have been affecting the geographical, social, economic and political realities within the borders of the nation domestically, and on the global stage. In order to encompass this diversity, American studies has become a scholarly discipline that deals with a great variety of material and critical approaches. In addition to printed documents, American Studies seeks to establish the cultural valence of other forms of texts including film, material cultural artifacts, architecture and industrial design.
