Objectif
By examining the concepts of gender and development, students discover why gender is critical for understanding and engaging into the development. They will be able to evaluate how gender is considered an integral part of development and social justice through the analyse of some of the moral and political challenges of gender inequity within aspects of social themes such as migration, reproduction, environment, technology etc.
Descriptif
The dominant discourse on human development is so far overtly patriarchal, the nature of patriarchal power in the human development discourses resides in its ability to maintain the social meanings attached to biological sex differences derived from male-centred conventions. The androcentric approach to polity has restricted the discussions of freedom and justice of women or other sexual minorities. This course intends to provide the theoretical and analytical tools to the students to understand the human development in a gender perspective. It explains why gender matters in contemporary international and community development and explore the major global challenges for gender inequity and social justice.
