| Equality, Growth and Sustainability - do they mix? | | 01.08.2010 | | 25.-26.11.2010 | | Linköping University, Sweden | This conference is a forum for examining if and how questions of equality, growth and sustainability can be reconciled in organisations and implemented in general practice.
15 years after the Beijing Platform for Action this conference will provide academics, policy makers and practitioners with an international and interdisciplinary forum for exchange. The purpose is to explore and disseminate knowledge and experiences on gender equality, gender mainstreaming, diversity management, growth and sustainability, inclusion and equal opportunities. The ambition is to discuss these key concepts and issues from an intersectional perspective, and in theory and practice, in order to rethink and find new ways to move on.
Key note speeches will be delivered by Marina Blagojevic, Tryggvi Hallgrimsson, Jeff Hearn, Vivane Reding and Mieke Verloo. A panel discussion with Irma Erlingdsdóttir, Liisa Husu, Malin Rönnblom and Mustafa Özbilgin concludes the conference. Two kinds of interactive conference formats will take place: parallel paper sessions and workshops. A paper session contains academic paper presentations and you are welcome to submit an abstract. A workshop is a forum where you can listen to interesting presentations and take part in discussions.

| | International Feminist Journal of Politics – Call for Editors | | 01.09.2010 | | International Feminist Journal of Politics seeks applications from scholars in the fields of feminist and women’s studies, interested in taking up co-editorship roles on the journal from July 1, 2011.
IFjP, which was launched in 1999, publishes original scholarship engaging with topics at the intersections of politics, international relations and women’s studies and is edited by a team of three main co-editors, one of whom is responsible for the institutional home base of the journal, and three sections editors.
The current three main co-editors are Sandra Whitworth (York University, Canada), Catherine Eschle (University of Strathclyde, Scotland) and Teresia Teaiwa (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand). In addition, separate editorial responsibilities for the Conversations Section are held by Anna M. Agathangelou (York University, Canada), Heather Turcotte (University of Connecticut, USA), while Juanita Elias (Griffith University, Australia) is editor of the Book Review Section. The 2011 editorial transition involves all members of the editorial team, including the three main co-editors as well as the section editors. The appointments will be decided by an international selection committee composed of the current three co-editors, three Board members and two external appointments.
Filling the three main co-editorship posts is our priority. In this regard, joint applications from teams of three individuals are particularly encouraged. Individuals are welcome to apply but should recognise that the selection committee seeks to make a minimum of three appointments, so if successful they will be appointed simultaneously with two others with whom they must be prepared to carry out editing duties. Historically, IFjP has operated with three main editors who are located at different institutions and on different continents. Further, one of the new co-editors will be expected to take over the institutional base for the journal, currently housed at York University, Canada, with the aid of a financial contribution towards editorial assistance from the publishers Taylor & Francis.
Full team applications - for not only the three editor roles but also the three sections editor positions (two for Conversations, one for Book Reviews) - are also encouraged. If in this initial call the section editorships are not filled, however, a separate call for these positions will be issued at a later date in order to involve the incoming editors in the selection process.
We particularly welcome applications from underrepresented or socially marginalised groups. Moreover, applications for the three main co-editorships are required to have at least one member in/from the Global South.
IFjP publishes four issues per year and its international editorial board features leading feminist scholars from across the world. The articles it publishes focus on the broadest range of feminist topics in international studies. The important editorial qualities we seek are a high level of commitment to collaborative journal work and the best standards of peer reviewed publishing, along with significant achievements in feminist scholarship. | Application packages should include CVs and a statement outlining what individuals would bring to the editing role, particularly in terms of the journal’s international remit. They should also signal any institutional support, including time allowance for journal work and available university resources, with particular attention paid in this regard to the location of the institutional base of the journal. It should be noted, however, that the availability of resources will not be allowed to trump considerations of academic excellence and international representation.

Les sujets de réflexion possibles sont les suivants : Quelles sont les caractéristiques de la déviance chez les personnages littéraires féminins et comment sont-ils représentés ? Quelles circonstances (culturelles, sociales, politiques, familiales, etc.) amènent ces personnages à défier les normes de la conduite dite « féminine »? Existe-t-il des types de déviance propres aux femmes ? Quelles sont les frontières entre rébellion et criminalité ? Comment est représentée la violence au féminin ? Space, place and gender have been key topics in areas such as architecture, law, history, sociology, urban studies, area studies, literary criticism, cultural studies, film studies, and gender.
Scholars are invited to address the issue of gender, place and space through a variety of disciplinary approaches, investigating a wide range of real and imagined places and spaces. They might consider masculine spaces, feminine spaces, queer spaces, or virtual spaces; spaces such as the home, the office, the railroad, the apartment, the museum, the store, the church; the urban, the rural, the suburban; spaces as represented in various texts and discourses; uses of space; theories of space, and more.
Proposals should consist of a 200-word abstract of the paper, a list of three keywords, and a brief biographical statement listing your title, the name of your college or university, and your areas of research and writing.

- Les pratiques des entreprises et des collectivités locales en matière de lutte contre les discriminations et de promotion de la diversité.
- Perspectives comparatives.

| | History of International Women Day | | 15.09.2010 | | 100 years of International Women’s Day in Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe
Vol. 6 of Aspasia will focus on the history of International Women’s Day and how it has been celebrated in different social and political contexts in Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe (CESEE).
On August 26, 1910, at the Second International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen, Clara Zetkin proposed an annual International Women’s Day, with women’s suffrage as its main demand. The first celebrations of International Women’s Day were in 1911 and they expanded in subsequent years. How did International Women’s Day contribute to women’s activism?
In addition to women’s suffrage, what other themes became included and how was March 8 used for different political agendas? Which women celebrated it, what were their class backgrounds and political affiliations? How were they organized? What kind of activities took place, and with what kind of institutional support? Were there international exchanges of speakers or women’s groups organized around March 8?
In addition to the overarching international theme, what were the national dimensions or foci of International Women’s Day activities? How was International Women’s Day celebrated in various countries in Central, Eastern, and South-eastern Europe (i.e., including Turkey and Greece) before 1940? How did the authorities react, especially in contexts where socialist activities were suppressed or forbidden? What was the meaning of International Women’s Day in the various countries in the region during state socialism? How were the origins and original goal of International Women’s Day narrated and did that change over time? Within the symbolic and discursive framework of the celebrations of International Women’s Day, what kind of feminine models, symbols, conducts etc., and what kind of gender relations were promoted? To what extent was International Women’s Day perceived and constructed as a global event, relevant not just for women in Europe but in other parts of the world as well? Finally, in the current strong reaction in Europe against “Communism,” has International Women’s Day been relegated to the historical dustbin as well?
In addition to the specific theme of International Women’s Day, we welcome submissions about all topics related to women’s and gender history in CESEE on an on-going basis.
For a future issue we also welcome contributions that focus on various aspects of Women’s Diaries, Memoirs and Correspondence, analyzed in the context of the social, political and cultural histories of the region. | | |

| | "La pornographie en France, XIXe-XXe" | | 15.09.2010 | | Mai 2011 | | Université de Saint-Quentin en Yvelines. | Pratique culturelle ordinaire pour les hommes, investie depuis peu par les femmes (Bozon, 2008), industries ou métiers informels dont les contours sont flous mais qui suscite des débats réguliers (Ogien, 2003), la pornographie est également un objet historique dont les frontières sont à géométrie variable : frontières sexuelles (bonne et mauvaise sexualité, homo et hétérosexualité), frontières sexuées, nationales et raciales (la pornographie « interraciale »), frontières de classe (pornographie vulgaire vs érotisme distingué).
Ce colloque a pour objectif de combler les lacunes de la recherche sur la pornographie contemporaine, à travers un regard portant à la fois sur ses productions et ses consommations, ses acteurs et ses pratiques. L'angle privilégié par ce colloque est donc large, et si la perspective chronologique structurera notre approche, on accueillera favorablement les propositions de sociologues, de littéraires, de juristes, de spécialistes des sciences de l'information, de sciences de l'éducation...

Geschlechterordnungen in der Reflexiven Moderne | | 30.09.2010 | | Nachdem nicht nur die empirische Bildungsforschung, sondern insbesondere auch die Sozialpädagogik den Begriff des ‚Riskos‘ (wieder-)entdeckt hat, lohnt es sich, ihn auch aus der Perspektive der Geschlechterforschung genauer in den Blick zu nehmen. | Wir laden Sie herzlich ein, sich mit einem Beitrag an unserem Schwerpunktheft zu beteiligen und bitten Sie, Ihr Exposé, das nicht mehr als 3.000 Zeichen enthalten soll, bis spätestens 30. September 2010 an die Herausgeberinnen zu schicken. Die Einladung an die Autorinnen und Autoren erfolgt Ende November 2010. Die ausgearbeiteten Beiträge müssen dann bis Mitte Juni 2011 vorliegen, damit genügend Zeit für das Review-Verfahren bleibt. Der Band erscheint im Frühjahr 2012.

| | Call for proposals for the Teaching with Gender Series | | 30.09.2010 | | The ATGENDER Board which took over from Athena3 the ATHENA Bookseries: Teaching with Gender. European Women’s Studies in International and Interdisciplinary Classrooms is calling for proposals for new volumes.
The financial situation permits the publication of one or two more volumes. The proposed volumes should follow the format of the series, should not be longer than 350 000 characters, should include “Teaching” and either “Women” or “gender” of “feminist” in the (sub-)title. The proposals (max. 800 words in length) consisting of the description of the content of the book, should also make a statement about how many of the authors are members of ATGENDER.
Only proposals submitted by members of ATGENDER can be accepted. | | "Corps écrit, corps écrivant : le corps féminin dans la littérature francophone des Amériques et des Caraïbes" | | 30.09.2010 | | 17 - 18.06.2011 | | Université Carleton, Ottawa (CA) | Le colloque vise à cerner la place qu'occupe le corps féminin dans la production littéraire francophone du Nouveau Monde (roman, récit, nouvelle, poésie, théâtre) en invitant ses participant(e)s à s'interroger d'abord sur le topos que constitue la chair féminine dans l'écriture fictionnelle. En effet, le corps féminin est bien un lieu à partir duquel écrire (facette qu'a explorée la critique féministe des trente dernières années) tout en étant un lieu où s'inscrivent les enjeux d'une société, d'une culture et d'une poétique. L'écriture du corps féminin, qu'elle définisse la position d'un sujet-corps dans la narration ou l'ensemble de ses représentations textuelles, se transforme-t-elle en fonction d'autres lieux lui étant extérieurs comme l'emplacement géographique, la période historique, etc.? Conserve-t-elle, en dépit de ces variables, des éléments communs? La réflexion que souhaite entamer ce colloque permettra sans doute la découverte de plusieurs avenues intéressantes pour les chercheur(e)s.
Lors de l'événement, les chercheur(e)s se réuniront notamment autour de séances plénières animées par des conférencier(e)s invité(e)s et pourront participer à une table ronde regroupant des écrivain(e)s (à confirmer).

| | "Les antiféminismes" | | 30.09.2010 | | 21.05.2011 | | Revue Recherches féministes et des Cahiers du genre; sous la direction d’Anne-Marie Devreux (Cahiers du genre) et Diane Lamoureux (Recherches féministes) | | Le développement des féminismes s’est historiquement accompagné de celui des antiféminismes. Tout comme le féminisme prend plusieurs formes, l’antiféminisme se présente en effet sous divers aspects, d’où le titre provisoire « Les antiféminismes ».
Ce numéro commun de la revue québécoise Recherches féministes et de la revue française Cahiers du genre, nous souhaitons faire apparaître l’antiféminisme sous ses différentes facettes, les multiples niveaux où il opère dans les sociétés contemporaines ou passées, et voir s’il convient d’en parler comme discours et mouvement cohérents ou comme pratiques et idéologies parcellaires. La sociologie des mouvements sociaux et celle des rapports sociaux de sexe s’intéressent de plus en plus aux contre-mouvements et aux réactions. Elles nous invitent à nous interroger: peut-on interpréter les antiféminismes comme un ressac par rapport à l’expansion des féminismes au cours des années 70 et au-delà ? Est-ce un phénomène que l’ont peut repérer dans l’histoire, après chaque avancée du féminisme ?
Comment interpréter les résistances masculines au changement ? Que faire des idées postféministes ? | | Les propositions (2000 signes espaces compris ou 300 mots) doivent nous parvenir avant le 30 septembre 2010. Les manuscrits (45000 signes espaces compris ou 7 000 mots maximum) doivent être soumis au plus tard le 31 mai 2011.

| | "Le couple face à la santé et à la maladie" | | 01.10.2010 | | 15.03.2010 et 16.05.2010 | | Toulouse et Marseille | Ces journées s’adressent à toutes les disciplines en sciences humaines et sociales. Plusieurs situations peuvent être explorées, dont trois immédiatement évidentes.
Tout d’abord, en dehors de toute confrontation avec la maladie, le couple est un espace où se négocient des aspects importants de la santé. L’alimentation (négociation autour des repas, des régimes, de la qualité des aliments), le tabagisme (tentatives d’arrêt en commun du tabac), le sexualité (négociation autour de la prévention des risques sexuels), le sport, etc. sont autant de domaines où les couples mettent en œuvre des pratiques et élaborent des discours dont la toile de fond est la préservation de la santé.
Lorsque la maladie survient et lorsque l’un des membres du couple est atteint d’une maladie ou d’une pathologie, spécialement quand celle-ci est chronique (vih, cancer, alzheimer), la relation devient relation à trois. Le rôle du conjoint se transforme, la maladie est partie prenante des projets conjugaux, etc. La pathologie peut suspendre les conflits ou au contraire les engendrer.
Enfin, le couple ou la relation de couple, est l’échelle d’un certain nombre de « troubles » ou de « difficultés » (dysfonctions sexuelles, trouble de la relation conjugale) qui sont l’objet d’approches thérapeutiques (sexologiques, thérapie de couple). Dans cette optique ce n’est plus l’individu qui est conçu comme le support de l’affection mais la relation conjugale elle-même qui est envisagée comme pathologique.
Trois axes d’analyse principaux semblent particulièrement importants pour aborder ces questions : le genre, l’âge couplé aux cycles de vie du couple et la catégorie sociale d’appartenance.

Ce numéro d’Autrepart entend rendre compte de la manière dont les processus d’autonomisation des femmes au sud, même partiels et marginaux se déploient tant dans la sphère domestique et familiale que dans la sphère publique. Il s’agit entre autre d’éclairer les conditions effectives de l’empowerment pris au sens des premiers travaux de féministes, c’est à-dire la manière dont certaines, individuellement et collectivement dépassent les injonctions normatives contradictoires, neutralisent les écueils, résistances et discriminations et parviennent à se libérer des structures sociales, culturelles, légales et économiques
oppressives qui perpétuent la domination selon le sexe mais aussi l’origine ethnique et laclasse.

Elle appelle des communications soucieuses d’identifier, à l’aune de cet objet, les apports et les limites des concepts désormais consolidés des gender studies. Dans cette perspective, les réflexions sur les intersections entre les formes sociales, sexuelles et raciales de domination à l’oeuvre dans les politiques de la justice et au cours des procès seront particulièrement bienvenues.
A cette discussion sur les concepts s’ajoutera une réflexion sur les méthodes de la sociologie du genre en terrain judiciaire.
Les organisateur-rice-s sont particulièrement intéressé-e-s par des recherches mobilisant plusieurs méthodes d’enquête et comparant leur contribution.
