Créé en 1995, le GDR Mage (Marché du travail et genre) est le premier et seul groupement de recherche centré sur la question du genre. En 2003 il devient GDR européen, sous la direction de Margaret Maruani.
Depuis le début, le Mage a travaillé dans une optique européenne, associant de nombreux chercheur-e-s et universitaires de différents pays à toutes ses activités. Les séminaires, journées d’études, colloques et publications du Mage ont toujours laissé une place importante aux apports étrangers.
L'objectif du Mage est de faire sortir la question du genre du cercle des initiés, de l’intégrer dans un débat plus vaste avec ceux et celles qui estiment – sans forcément que ce soit leur objet de recherche principal – qu’une lecture sexuée du monde du travail a des vertus heuristiques.

In Frankfurt am Main ist die neue "Leitstelle Geschlechtergerechtigkeit und Nachhaltigkeit" eingerichtet worden. Ziel der Leitstelle ist es, Genderkompetenz in die Umwelt- und Nachhaltigkeitspolitik einzubringen und damit die Gerechtigkeit zwischen den Geschlechtern auch in Themenfeldern wie Energieerzeugung, Klimaschutz oder der Verteilung der natürlichen Ressourcen zu fördern. Das Büro dient dabei als bundesweite Koordinations- und Servicestelle.
Es soll Wissen bündeln, Umweltverbände, Politik und Verwaltung unterstützen und Einfluss nehmen auf politische Entscheidungen.
