In co-operation with the network NeuroGenderings, the Gender Research Office at the University of Vienna, will launch a three-day international, interdisciplinary conference entitled "NeuroCultures – NeuroGenderings II" 13 - 15 September 2012 at the University of Vienna.

The aim of the conference "NeuroCultures – NeuroGenderings II" is to improve reflective scientific approaches concerned with sex/gender and the brain, and to gain particular insight into the transformation or persistence of gendered norms and values that accompany the mutual entanglements between brain research, various disciplines and public discourse.

Gender studies is an interdisciplinary field of academic study on the issues of gender in its social and cultural contexts. Since its emergence from feminism, gender studies have become one of the most deliberated disciplines. The following project aims at an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and perspectives on the issues of femininity and masculinity in the 21st century. It invites ground-breaking research on a plethora of topics connected with gender, to propose an interdisciplinary view of the frontiers and to stake out new territories in the study of femininity and masculinity

The conference “Gender, Family and Peasant Farming” offers a gendered social and cultural reading of the evolution of agricultural worlds in the North and the South confronted to a certain number of difficulties and impasses. This conference aims at showing how a gendered reading of agriculture throws light on new organizational experiences, but also on new ways of producing, on choices of productive systems, and on particular relationships to the land. Particularly, the conference questions the links between agriculture, community development, and environment by mobilizing the tools of gender analysis.

Vor dem Hintergrund der anhaltenden (Bildungs-)Debatte und beobachtbarer Tendenzen im Schulkontext, Geschlechterdifferenz affirmativ einzuschreiben und asymmetrische Geschlechterverhältnisse und -bilder zu (re)produzieren, soll eine reflektierte Pädagogik vorgestellt werden, die sich mit dem (Un)Doing Gender in der Schule auseinandersetzt. Schwerpunkt ist die prak-tische Anwendung von Erkenntnissen aus den Gender Studies in der Schule und im Unterrricht.

Die Tagung ist von der Fortbildungsregion Braunschweig, Niedersaechsische Landesschulbehoerde als Fortbildung fuer LehrerInnen anerkannt.

A fundamental activity in present liberal societies has to do with the definition, identification, classification and differentiation of populations, a distinguishing characteristic strongly connected with conflicts and inequalities arising from the formation and maintenance of multiple borders (physical, social, personal). Feminist perspectives have developed different critical approaches integrating the structural, ideological and subjective analysis of social exclusion and marginalization; approaches that show the intersectional character of current forms of discrimination and take into account elements such as gender, sexuality, ethnicity/race, class, religion, national origin, and others.

Despite the complexity of current population movements within a postcolonial context characterized by major economic and social differences, mainstream interventions tend to follow a directive approach based on compliance with pre-established indicators. Approaching the multidimensionalty of present societies from an external and fragmented gaze de-contextualizes social groups and hinders the dialogue and participation among different ways of understanding and addressing coexistence.

This gathering opens a space for debate and reflection where professionals (public and private), researchers and activists advance their experiences and analysis on the formation, effects and criticisms of present forms of bordering (physical, social, ideological,...). A 'plaza' that welcomes practical experiences, theoretical analysis and artistic expressions in the critical reflection and analysis of current understandings of migration.

Im Dezember 2011 organisierte das IASH in Zusammenarbeit mit den drei fakultären Forschungszentren die Tagung „Postdocs in the Wilderness? Christine Färber ist Professorin für empirische Sozialforschung an der Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg. Seit 1999 ist sie Inhaberin des Unternehmens Competence Consulting für Organisations- und Politikberatung mit Sitz in Potsdam.

Die Referentinnen und Interviewpartnerinnen, Chefredaktorin Nicole Althaus, HSG-Studentin Amanda Ammann und Gemeindepräsidentin Sonja Wiesmann, sprechen über ihre ganz persönlichen privaten und beruflichen Aha-Erlebnisse. Was hat sie beflügelt auf ihrem Lebensweg, worüber sind sie gestolpert? In welche Schubladen wurden sie gesteckt und welchen Irrtümern sind sie selbst aufgesessen?

Mona Vetsch hakt nach und die Politologin Regula Stämpfli zeigt das Dilemma zwischen autonomem Lebensweg und Anerkennung auf. Die Inputs der Teilnehmerinnen kommen beim Referentinnenpodium zur Sprache und die Appenzeller Musikerin Karin Streule interpretiert die weiblichen Lebenswege neu.

Through the 2012 AWID Forum, we aim to explore how economic power is impacting on women and the planet, and to facilitate connections among the very diverse groups working on these issues from both human rights and justice approaches so that together we contribute to stronger, more effective strategies to advance women's rights and justice.

AWID particularly welcomes women and men from the Global South, young women, and groups that historically have had difficulty getting their agendas heard on a global stage.
